Stretch Limousines Go Green
I’ll take the Los Angeles stretch limousine in green. What’s that? Not yet?
When you rent a limo, you are probably not thinking about the environment. However, there is a new trend starting to spread around the country. Green limousines, and we don’t mean green in color.
Many limousine companies across the country are offsetting their carbon footprint by utilizing hydrogen fuel cell in their limos. Other limousine companies are introducing hybrid limos to their fleets in ever increasing numbers. Another trend with limo services is to implement carbon offset programs to neutralize the carbon emissions their gas guzzling vehicles create.
Speaking of gas guzzling, the new presidential limousine grabbed headlines earlier this year when General Motors announced the new 2009 presidential limo would not carry a specific model name. This is the first ever presidential limo to not have a model name.
This new limo is nicknamed the Beast and is built like a tank. It is reported to have eight inch thick armor, tear gas cannons and Kevlar reinforced tires. However, for security reasons, the real details of this now limousine are “top secret”.
For largely functional reasons, such as optimal outward visibility, the car is slightly more upright than its predecessor. The rear passenger area includes an extensive executive compartment with ample seating space, outward visibility and useful mobile office features. Much of the finishing is hand-cut and sewn.
An embroidered presidential seal is positioned in the center of the rear seat back panel, as well as on each rear door trim panel. The rear doors are also adorned with presidential seals, while the US flag is mounted on the right front wing. The presidential standard flies from the left front wing when the president is on board. At night, the flags are illuminated by on-board spotlights.
