Infertility – The Rise & Rise Of Assisted Reproduction

Infertility is becoming a massive problem in the Western world. There has been a huge growth in the number of people using assisted reproduction techniques such as IVF and ICSI.

Why is infertility such a problem?

Well a big part of it is nutrition. Our ever increasing consumption of processed foods is playing a vital role in the decreasing fertility levels couples are experiencing.

In fact prepregnancy nutrition is so important that simply by changing your diet you can dramatically increase the chances of achieving a successful pregnancy.

Bear in mind that never before in the history of the human race have we been exposed to so many chemicals and substances. Substances which permeate our skin and enter our bodies.

Basically, for the last 50 years or more we have been conducting one big scientific experiment on the human race by finding ever more toxic substances to play with.

It’s no real surprise that this might affect male and female fertility.

So nutrition is a big one but by no means the only factor. Another big one (and excuse the pun) is your weight. It is actually crucial to maintain a healthy body weight to give yourself the best chance of becoming pregnant. You need enough calories but not too many.

It’s no mistake that women have proportionately more body fat. Men enjoy an average of 15% body fat while for women it is closer to 27%. Fat is an essential ingredient in the fertility mix.

There’s not enough room in this article to go into much more detail but there are many other factors. I did find this Squidoo page entitled taking charge of your fertility which had good info. I don’t think it’s related to the book.
