I Want to Learn Spanish. What Spanish Language Courses are Available?
You want to learn Spanish, but there are a seemingly endless number of possibilities.
You could literally do everything from buy a book to spend thousands and years to learn to speak Spanish fluently. Depending upon your financial and immediate physical abilities, your Spanish language course options include
one-on one-tutors, local college courses, and immersion:
While finding a one-on-one tutor to help teach you Spanish is certainly a viable option, it needs to be considered in conjunction with a larger group setting so that you are getting the benefits of feedback from more than just a single individual. Additionally, this option may not be cost effective in the long run because tutors usually charge by the hour and second language acquisition can be time-consuming. However, most colleges offer the chance to engage a tutor for help with a current course.
Local College Courses:
Most, if not all, American colleges offer Spanish as a foreign language option. This means that for the price of tuition, you may begin taking Spanish language courses as soon as the next semester begins. Sometimes, these colleges offer communication courses that are designed to have you speaking the language rather than such an intense focus on reading and writing. The benefit to college courses is that a student may move on from communication to literature in the passage of a few years.
Immersion:
One of the fastest ways to acquire a second language, like Spanish, is to become immersed in the culture, or go to the country to study. While this may seem overwhelming, there are Spanish language courses available for students who are newly arrived to places like Spain. One such school is don Quijote where students can choose to learn in a variety of ways:
Intensive course—four classes per day for 1-21 plus weeks
Super intensive course—six classes per day for 1-21 plus weeks
One to one—designed for those with a limited time frame.
Spanish talk—two hours of daily conversation
Spanish for life—designed for those with time on their hands who wish to get the most of their Spanish language courses.
Groups/Study Travel—this is a course for those who wish to study and travel around Spain.
Youth program—for anyone under 18, these classes are intermixed with Spanish students.
For those who have the financial means and can physically accomplish it, immersion in a country like Spain is the most effective and fun way to learn another language. For those who cannot go to another country, Spanish language courses are available from a nearby college, or perhaps a one-on-one tutor.
Whichever you choose, remember to immerse yourself as completely as possible in not only the words, but also the culture so that you get the most out of your language learning experience. The best way to learn spanish in spain though is to find a
spanish school in Barcelona and take a barcelona spanish class!
